Root Mortgage — Brand Identity & Strategic Rebrand
Founded in 2014, Root Mortgage is a Clackamas, Oregon-based mortgage company built on a simple belief: home financing should be transparent, educational, and relationship-driven. As the company continued to gain momentum within the finance and real estate industry, leadership recognized the need for a brand identity that better reflected its values and differentiated it from competitors often associated with complexity, hidden fees, and transactional customer experiences.
Through stakeholder discovery sessions, we identified three core brand pillars that would guide the rebrand: Connect. Learn. Grow. These principles became the foundation for the visual identity system, influencing every design decision from the logo mark to typography and brand application. The objective was to create a brand that communicated trust, expertise, and approachability while reinforcing Root Mortgage's commitment to building long-term relationships with borrowers.
The logo mark was designed as a bold, structured emblem inspired by symbols of trust, commitment, and stability. Its geometric framework reflects the strength and reliability expected from a financial partner, while the integration of flowing, organic elements references growth, connection, and the personalized guidance Root Mortgage provides throughout the home-buying journey. A modern sans-serif typeface was selected to convey clarity, professionalism, and accessibility, allowing the wordmark to perform effectively both independently and alongside the symbol.
The resulting identity system positions Root Mortgage as a trusted advisor rather than simply a lender. By balancing strength with approachability, the brand communicates the company's unique promise: helping clients navigate the home financing process through education, transparency, and genuine relationships. The rebrand provided a scalable foundation for future growth across digital platforms, marketing materials, signage, and customer-facing experiences.
